What makes Food for the Hungry's child sponsorship unique?
Some sponsorship programs provide hand-outs or work only with the children in an impoverished community. But Food for the Hungry’s programs engage all members of a community, empowering them to identify and meet their own needs both now and long after FH is gone.
FH has one of the lowest rates of overhead costs of any child-sponsorship organization.

What does my sponsorship provide?
FH has child sponsorship in dozens of communities among 13 countries around the globe. The benefits of sponsorship vary in every community. While some communities may benefit most from agricultural training or seed projects, others may focus more on HIV/AIDS prevention or solutions to alcoholism. Because the needs vary, solutions must, as well.
Regardless of the community, however, your sponsored child is guaranteed to receive many things to give her a chance at a healthy life. She will be able to attend school – a luxury not afforded to so many children today. She will be properly equipped with tools to learn: a school uniform, books, pencils and tutoring. Her body will be strengthened with more nutritious food and clean water. And all sponsored children receive regular medical care – a rare occurrence in most impoverished communities.
Above all, your sponsored child will learn about her value as a precious child of God. She will be shown the grace and love of Christ by FH’s Christian staff, and her entire community will be able to hear the Gospel.

Can I write or visit my sponsored child?
Your sponsorship gives an entire community the chance at a future free from the chains of poverty, and you play a necessary role by making a relationship with just one child.
And no matter where your sponsored child lives, you can write to him! Whether he is high in the mountains of Bolivia or at the floor of the desert in Kenya, he will cherish your letters and photos of you and your family, and he’ll write back. You will receive updates on his progress.
Many sponsors, like the one pictured above, have visited their sponsored children by going on an FH short-term missions trip!
How much does sponsorship cost?
Providing hope for a child costs just a little more than a dollar a day – $32 a month. FH keeps costs low by conserving resources and remembering financial responsibility to you and our God. Many sponsors choose to give more each month, making an even greater impact, but $32 will help meet a child’s basic physical and spiritual needs.
How long is sponsorship?
It is in the best interest of the child that sponsorship lasts until the child needs it no longer. There is no contract to sign, but the greatest impact happens when a sponsor walks alongside his sponsored child through secondary or vocational school.
