Use this resource page to learn more about what we are doing in Brazil, and how you can help us meet spiritual and physical hungers …

Brazil is the largest country in South America, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (east) and all other South American countries except Chile. The capital is Brasília. The main physical features are vast highlands in the southeast; the Amazon River Basin of impenetrable forested lowlands, swamps, and floodplains; and the Guiana Highlands in the northwest. Much of the coast is fringed by a narrow plain. The climate ranges from wet and tropical at the mouth of the Amazon to drier and cooler in the southeast. The official language is Portuguese.

The most populous country in South America, Brazil has come through over half a century of military intervention in the country government system, pursuing industrial and agricultural growth. Through the exploitation of vast natural resources and a large labor pool, Brazil is South America's leading economic power. Although economic management has been successful, there are still important economic vulnerabilities, which are maintaining economic growth over a period of time to generate employment as well as making the government foreign debt burden more manageable.

Food for the Hungry began working in Brazil in 1997 with operation of a training center, a day-care center and a food security program.
