If you are interested in starting the application process to be a Hunger Corps missionary, following is the detailed application process:
Step 1 – SUBMIT RESUME
Regardless of your level of interest it is a perfect time to submit your resume and start the application process.
Step 2 – INITIAL PHONE CALL:
Upon receiving your resume, a Hunger Corps application coach will contact you within 5-7 days via email or phone to discuss next steps or notify you if there are no current Hunger Corps positions available.
Step 3 – PRELIMINARY APPLICATION:
Based on the initial phone call, if you move forward, an email will be sent containing a link and instructions on how to submit a preliminary application.
Step 4 – SCREENING INTERVIEW:
Upon receiving your preliminary application, the application coach will contact you within 7-10 days for a follow-up discussion. This interview will help us start learning about you to determine where you feel God is leading you to serve.
Step 5 – APPLICATION / SCREENING INTERVIEW:
- Based on the screening interview, if you move forward, an email will be sent with instructions on how to submit a full application. Additionally, we will need to receive the following items before an application can be considered complete:
- Educational transcripts
- Reference responses (employer, pastor, friend and teacher/colleague)
- After we receive all the completed application documents the application coach will contact you to schedule a pre-placement interview.
- After the interview, the application coach will document her/his recommendation and transfer your file to the fielding coach. The fielding coach will make a decision about your initial acceptance into the Hunger Corps program and notify you.
- The deadlines for submitting your application, and all supporting documents, occurs three times a year in correlation with the basic training you attend, which is described further in Step 6.
Step 6 – HUNGER CORPS BASIC TRAINING:
If the application process continues, you will be invited to a one-week basic training program held 3 times per year in Phoenix, Arizona. During these few days you will receive an in-depth overview of Food for the Hungry and at the same time we will conduct further professional screening interviews. We will also discuss possible placements for you in our worldwide country offices.
Step 7 – CANDIDACY:
Following Hunger Corps Basic Training, if you and Food for the Hungry are in mutual agreement to continue the process, we will solidify your placement and name you as a Candidate to the mission field. Most placements are confirmed approximately 4 to 6 weeks after attending the training. Once Candidate status is achieved, you will begin raising support for the field.
Step 8 – PRE-FIELD ORIENTATION:
After you have started raising support, but before departing for the field, you will visit our Phoenix office again for an employee workshop and then travel to the three-week Pre-Field Orientation held at a Food for the Hungry field office outside of the United States.
Step 9 – THE FIELD:
Once you finish raising your support, you are ready for the field!
