Food for the Hungry is unique in our approach to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa and other affected regions.
Why? We mobilize churches, leaders and community-based organizations to respond to this crisis BEFORE, DURING and AFTER its effects are felt.
Food for the Hungry's HIV/AIDS programs strategically meet needs:
Before:- Provide resources and education on prevention of new HIV/AIDS infections
- Educate individuals and families to increase abstinence before marriage, faithfulness in marriage, and to adopt other healthy practices
DURING:
- Provide compassionate home-based care and counseling to victims and their families
- Improve the quality of life for orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS
- Promote community-wide education to decrease the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS
AFTER:- Respond to the physical and emotional needs of orphans
- Provide counseling for families to assist in the coping process
- Offer resources to increase the capacity of families to meet their own needs
Food for the Hungry is committed to seeing communities transformed in the way they acknowledge, think about and respond to the HIV/AIDS crisis.
