Job Description
MISSION STATEMENT
Motivated by Christ's love, this position plays a role in promoting the holistic ministry of FH through the framework of the organization’s Corporate Identity. FH seeks to walk with churches leaders and families in overcoming all forms of human poverty by living in healthy relationship with God and His creation.
SUMMARY
FH/Sudan is responsible for the implementation of a water and sanitation project in the Upper Nile State of Sudan. Under the direct supervision of the Programs Officer, the Water and Sanitation Coordinator will manage the budget and supervise all the staff for this project to ensure a successful implementation. The duration of this position starts January 1, 2008 and ends December 31, 2008. The position is a non-accompanied post.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Key Result #1 – Manage the Water and Sanitation Project (70%)
- Set-up, plan, supervise and monitor the implementation of the water and sanitation project;
- Manage and oversee the work of the sanitation trainers and other technical staff;
- Assess the activities undertaken and ensure efficient use of resources;
- Identify and organize a response of the capacity building needs of the water and sanitation staffs;
- Develop new proposals, provide technical input and help out with water and sanitation assessments.
Key Result #2 – Manage project budgets and provide accurate and timely reports (20%)
- Assist with planning of project budgets and ensure appropriate expenditure of budgets in line with donor requirements;
- Ensure all project reporting (internal and external) is completed in a timely and accurate manner;
- Liaise with all internal and external counterparts of the project and present timely periodic reports;
Key Result # 3 – Promote and represent FH/Sudan to external stakeholders (10%)
- Actively pursue contacts with local government officials, and with NGO and UN representatives on a regular basis;
- Ensure the water, sanitation & hygiene promotion representation of FH through various co-ordination group meetings and through contacts with various partners;
- Develop FH/Sudan’s capacity and knowledge on water, sanitation & hygiene promotion issues in South Sudan;

- Minimum two years of living and working overseas in a developing country
- Two years experience in managing and implementing programs
- Ability to coordinate and manage staff and project activities
- Familiarity with the humanitarian aid system and ability to understand donor and governmental requirements
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills
- Proven ability to work creatively and independently both in the field and in the office

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BA) from College or university in Water and Sanitation Engineering ideally combined with Health; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Accountable for supervising staff assigned to the water and sanitation project.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent spoken and written English. Ability to read and interpret field program reports; analyze, and interpret reports and statistical information, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Knowledge of Arabic a plus.
