South Asia Flood: Food for the Hungry delivers relief to displaced Bangladeshi flood survivors
Heavy monsoon rains have caused rising water levels of almost all major rivers and the breach of several flood protection embankments and levees – with nearly 7 million people either marooned or displaced. People have taken shelter among roads and embankments, with food and drinking water scarce. Diarrhea, cholera, snakebite and skin diseases are prevalent.
Food for the Hungry relief workers are helping displaced families, distributing 10-day food supplies including rice, potatoes, lentils, salt and cooking oil. In addition, Food for the Hungry relief workers are providing for health needs and combating water-borne diseases by distributing oral saline, water purification tablets, soap and medicine.
