Week 1 - Government Leaders >>Pray for ordered times and good government after years of unprecedented turmoil. This expansive archipelago has been hit in recent years by a continent-wide financial crisis, by the fall of a president who ruled for 32 years (Suharto), by contentious loss of territory (East Timor), by independence demands from restive provinces, by bloody inter-ethnic and religious conflict, and most recently, by cataclysmic natural disaster (the tsunami). Pray for order, peace and a stable government.
>>Pray for peace and tranquillity as Indonesia settles in after the first-ever direct presidential elections in the country’s history in September 2004. Pray that the policies of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono accord with God’s will for the island country, and that he muster the strength and skill to fight corruption, rejuvenate the economy and tackle separatist conflicts, as he has promised.
Week 2 - Churches >>Pray for the churches as they rebuild and that Food for the Hungry staff could build good relationships with these churches and identify needs.
Week 3 - Families >>Pray for the families of those who have died due to natural disasters or conflict. Many men have had their lives taken in tsunamis, mudflows, floods and the religious and social conflict, leaving behind them women with little marketable skills to provide for their remaining family. An organization called PKK (Pendidikan Kesejahteran Keluarga; in English, Education and Welfare of the Family) exists to help the women of Aceh learn new skills so that they can better provide and care for their families. Please pray that FH staff’s participation in this group will provide a platform for getting to know the women of Aceh.
Week 4 - Partners, Projects & People >>Pray for continued Tsunami reconstruction. The emergency relief operation after the killer tsunami of late December has drawn to a close. Eyes have turned from recovery to reconstruction and rebuilding. After playing a major role in the emergency phase, Food for the Hungry has committed significant resources and manpower to helping Indonesians, specifically Achenese and those on the island of Nias, rebuild their society.
>>Pray for blessings on the partnership we have entered with the City of Phoenix for long-term development of the city of Meulaboh, a municipality of 120,000 that lost one-third of its people to the surging sea.
>>Pray that God would bless the FH programs that were implemented to get Meulaboh, Calang, and Nias back on their feet.
>>Pray that God would strengthen and bless FH staff in Indonesia, particularly the team morale. Pray that God would minister through them to hurting hearts and souls. Pray for staff safety; we have had a series of transportation accidents and natural disasters in Indonesia in the last 6 months, not to mention the ongoing religious and social conflicts.
>>Pray for the people of Indonesia, who, like many others around the world, live under the debilitating specter of armed conflict and terrorism. Separatist groups make daily life hazardous in much of the country, and the Bali nightclub bombing of 2002, which claimed over 200 lives, served notice that not even Muslim countries are immune from Muslim extremism. Pray for peace.
>>Praise that the Department of Agriculture in the district we are working in has accepted our rice growing program as the district standard.
>>Praise that the start of our new agriculture project on Nias island is starting off very well with many God ordained meetings and doors opening up.
>>Praise that there is a great staff in Indonesia with a heart to serve the Lord with good attitudes, spirit, and competency.
