transformational development
When Food for the Hungry enters into impoverished communities, our goal
is to
bring about sustainable change and transformation. We call this our
Vision of a Community, where we walk alongside the leaders, churches,
and families in communities, equipping and motivating them to reach out
and solve their own problems. Following are just a few of the
transformational development programs that help us toward that goal:
Child Development: Parental counseling, medical checkups,
education, school supplies, new skills development, educating youth
about AIDS, rehabilitating school buildings
Church Development: Discipling pastors and leaders, providing training
methods and materials, collaborating with churches to help reach out to their
communities
Economic Development: Micro-enterprise, irrigation, natural resource
management, education, water and sanitation, community health
Agriculture, Food Security: Transferring farming technologies to increase
agricultural production, promoting forestry, soil conservation and water
conservation
Health: Prevent malnutrition, illness, and poor sanitation practices, health
assessment and first aid treatment, train & education local health-care
representatives
Water: Drill wells, construct dams, water pans, and catchment systems, educate
in proper hygiene
