On March 22, celebrate World Water Day in bringing awareness and action about clean water issues worldwide. According to the United Nations, 783 million people do not have access to clean water and almost 2.5 billion do not have access to adequate sanitation.
These high figures lead to a more shocking statistic - every 20 seconds a child dies as a result of poor sanitation.
But you can make a difference. When you partner with Food for the Hungry, you'll help bring clean water projects to poor communities around the world.
Just ask Yubo Boru, a mother of four, living in the community of Waye Godha in Kenya. She used to travel far to fetch water from a dirty pond. Using unclean water resulted in frequent outbreaks of diseases, like diarrhea. In addition, the women and children living in her community had to sacrifice work and school to get this disease-ridden water.
Until help and hope arrived.
Because of people like you, Food for the Hungry (FH) was able to start a clean water project in the community.
FH worked with community members to identify a rock catchment near the village - an area where natural rock formations catch rainwater. The community contributed local materials and labor to construct water tanks and a pipeline that connected to the rock catchment. The water was protected and able to be stored. Clean water was finally available-and it was nearby.
But clean water wasn't all you helped to provide!
FH conducted several trainings to promote good health and hygiene practices.
Because of this clean water project in Waye Godha, 2,108 lives drastically improved. Children are healthier and attend school. Mothers, such as Yubo, can now grow gardens and sell their produce for income. This project has put a smile on Yubo's face and brought hope to her children and others in the community.
Join us today on World Water Day to celebrate bringing clean water to those who need it! With your gift of $25, $50 or $120-you'll bring life-giving water to communities like Yubo's in Kenya. Partner with FH by supporting these projects today!
