The impact of Child Sponsorship on a child’s life is displayed in ways that continue to give testimony to the wondrous plans that God has for His children.
Yobel is a 12-year-old boy living in Indonesia. Through FH educational programs, he has transformed from a reserved student with limited social skills to a courageous, confident individual. Yobel now enjoys competing in public events and diligently pursuing higher education, working toward reaching his God-given potential. He has also revealed himself to be a remarkable artist.
Yobel’s Life Before Child Sponsorship
Yobel lives with his father, Pinen, and his mother, Hotma, in the community of Securai Selatan, a hamlet in the Langkat region of Indonesia. Pinen is the main provider for the family and follows the traditional occupation of rice farmer.
In particular, Yobel’s artistic potential was recognized and appreciated. “I was initially hesitant to show my drawings to the staff,” Yobel confides, “but FH reassured me that my artwork was excellent and that continuous practice would yield even better results.” This encouragement proved effective, and a year later, Yobel won second prize in a drawing competition.
Moreover, Yobel’s transformation doesn’t end there. With access to sports equipment, he now spends his time after school playing games like badminton. Additionally, FH educational modules have helped to increase Yobel’s academic performance. He is now keen to pursue a higher education after completing high school to reach his God-given potential.
Yobel recognizes how he has grown personally, creatively, and academically. He is delighted at the confident, courageous person he now is and is grateful for the acknowledgment he receives through rewards and accolades of the person God has created him to be.
A Family’s Future is Transformed
Child Sponsorship has made a meaningful impact in Yobel’s life. After witnessing his educational progress, Yobel’s parents now prioritize education over encouraging their son to seek employment abroad. They fully support Yobel in continuing his higher studies and developing his artistic talent. Indeed, one of Yobel’s sisters has received a Bidikmisi scholarship and is currently attending a university in Aceh, so the family hopes that Yobel can follow in her footsteps.
Additionally, Yobel’s mother, Hotma, participated in the FH’s Home Gardening program. With the training she received, she raises a home vegetable garden, which reduces household expenses and provides the family with healthy, organic vegetables. Hotma now shares her knowledge of gardening with other mothers in her community, which reflects the value and longevity of impact in communities.
The Impact of Child Sponsors
Proverbs 2:26 (ESV) states, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Yobel is one of many inspiring stories of how child sponsors are helping children around the world reach their God-given potential.
Child Sponsorship invests in building brighter futures for families challenged by poverty, injustice, and marginalization. Through your sponsorship, you can help children like Yobel walk in the plans that God has for them.
