ACTIVE EMERGENCY

Horn of Africa Emergency Response

After five consecutive below-average rains, the humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa is expanding and deepening. According to the World Food Program, by the end of December 2022, the drought had left 23 million people severely food insecure across the region. And it has become clear that the currently expected rainy season is already failing.

This is the region’s worst drought in more than four decades.

Children are among the worst affected in disasters. Extreme thirst drives young children to drink any dirty, contaminated water, and they can die quickly from the resulting diarrhea.

Food Supply

The Ukraine war cut the flow of the staple grains and fuel throughout these drought-ravaged countries, escalating the hunger situation.

36 Seconds

A child dies in the Horn of Africa every 36 seconds as a direct result of drought.

5.3 million

In 2022, 12.8 million people across the Horn of Africa were displaced by drought, and 5.3 million were living in areas severely affected by drought.

Food for the Hungry responds urgently to communities suffering in this disaster. We are urgently working on the ground in three of the most severely affected countries in the Horn of Africa: Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia. Your generous donation helps assure that FH has the resources we need to continue this life-saving response!

Should funds raised for this effort exceed the budgeted need, remainders will be used in the best possible way to help communities challenged by poverty, injustice and marginalization. FH is accountable before God and you to use gifts wisely. As members of Excellence in Giving and the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, we also abide by their strict reporting standards.
