Can I give a gift directly to my sponsored child?
A: While you can’t give a gift to a specific individual, including your sponsored child, you can make a meaningful impact by choosing a gift requested by the country they live in. On page 4 of the catalog, you’ll find a list of the most-needed items by country—selected based on local needs and priorities. Choosing a gift from your sponsored child’s country helps ensure your support goes where it’s needed most.
Can I choose the country where my gift goes?

A: Our country teams work closely with people in the communities we serve to understand their specific needs. Together, they plan a wishlist based on what is needed most. We share this information with you by listing the countries that will receive specific gifts in the catalog descriptions. For example, goats are currently needed in Bangladesh and Nicaragua, and chickens are needed in Cambodia and Uganda. You can be assured that your gift will go to one of the countries listed.

Can I choose what family, community, or country receives my gift?

A: No. But you can be confident that your gift will go where it’s most needed in one of the countries that requested your gift. 

How is my gift delivered?

A: We purchase most gifts locally, so your generosity supports local economies while meeting immediate needs. Families receive their gifts along with training and support from our staff and community leaders. 

Can I find out who received my gift?

A: While gifts can’t be traced to a specific child or family, you’ll receive heartfelt stories of how your gift is making a real, lasting difference in the lives of children and their communities. 

Where are the gifts purchased?

A: Good news! Most gifts are sourced where they will be received! By purchasing them locally, FH  further supports the economy of that community! This means the gifts you give have an even greater impact, helping the families that receive them and also supporting the communities where they live. Any items that cannot be sourced locally are purchased and delivered to recipients.

Gift Policy:
You may send small, flat paper-based items that can fit into a standard #10 size envelope, have a value of less than $5 dollars and weigh less than 4 ounces. We ask that you send small, flat items of this size because shipping is expensive and even small gift items can cause issues clearing customs.

You can send postcards or photographs, however, we ask that you visit here for more details about culturally appropriate guidelines for photos and other images. Please write the child’s ID # on the back of each item that you enclose with your letter to ensure that it reaches him/her.
 
Best gifts to send your sponsored child:
  • Paper dolls
  • Postcards
  • Pictures of yourself or family
  • Sports cards, individual cards (baseball, soccer, football)
  • Stickers (flat, paper-based, only a few at a time)
  • Paper-based simple bookmarks, stationery, drawing, or writing paper (single sheets)
  • Coloring pages (single sheets, not books)

Please do NOT send:
  • Monetary gifts
  • Liquids, candy, or food
  • Batteries or magnets

Please note, all items should be compliant with airline transport and safety regulations. Gifts that don’t meet the gift policy will be donated to a local Christian non-profit organization in Phoenix, Arizona, that works with low-income families. We will not be able to return them.
